Don’t Be in love

Rating : 4.75/5 Stars

I completely love this book—it brought me back to romance. I've been boycotting the genre because I hadn't found a book that’s got me giggling on my couch. There's no spice in this book, but that's what I love about it. The tension was incredible, and I could feel Dorian's love for Adelaide. Many reviews mentioned the miscommunication in this book, I took a different approach. I could empathize why she's afraid to love and puts her career first. Given how she grew up and the role models she was surrounded with, her trauma around love made sense. I feel her pain at the end when she confessed to Dorian. As for her relationships with Sabrina and her aunt; Adelaide's lesson is to give people the benefit of the doubt—to actually take that step to talk to them. To have a genuine conversation before jumping to conclusions. To not let fear run your life. From that, I felt this book to be authentic, real, and raw

And Dorian—what a godsend of a man. He never gave up on her, no matter how much she pushed him away. He always found himself near her, finding ways to be her presence. He's a literal dream. What drew me into their relationship was their banter, their comebacks, and how they kept each other on their toes. Their bond made me giggle. Their story manifests a personal desire to travel to London, hoping I find myself in the same situation.

The love in this book makes me question if this mirrors reality. But I stop to think that it is possible—to find someone who is utterly in love with you, who looks in your eyes like you hung the moon, who revels in your presence. That kind of love is embarrassing, but you'd rather be embarrassed than have no love at all. That type of love is absolutely wondrous and rare. The yearning in this book hits hard and makes you want to kick off the blanket you've buried yourself in.

(So Kilig)

The only reason I gave it 4 .75 stars instead of 5 was due to James's confession. He’s Dorian's best friend, to me it just felt odd and out of place.

I can’t wait to read more from Liana Cincotti
